Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Mocs receiver Bryce Nunnelly got on the field last year as a true freshman where he caught seven passes for 89-yards.
The former Walker Valley standout is hoping those numbers keep improving this season, much like his GPA.
Bryce Nunnelly’s freshman stats may not be impressive, but he still made a big impression on his team and coaches.
Said receivers coach Greg Harbaugh, Jr:”I got here in the spring, and Bryce has made a huge impact on me just from the way he works. I was told he was one of those guys that impacted the team as a freshman, but we’re hoping he can continue to make a bigger impact this year.”
It will be a fight to make a bigger impact on the field because the Mocs have a lot of depth at receiver.
Said Nunnelly:”We’ve got a lot of receivers. I think we’ve got five or six seniors this year. Every day is a battle for playing time really essentially. All camp we were battling for it, and I think we still are now.”
Nunnelly was a decathlete in high school, and coach Arth would like to exploit those abilities this fall.
Said head coach Tom Arth:”He is somebody we can utilize on the outside in a number one receiver position, but we can also put him in the slot. Put him in as a number three and try to create some mismatches because he has got great short area quickness. But he’s also got the long speed to be a threat vertically down the field.”
Said Harbaugh:”The best thing about him, and I honestly told his parents this the other day was that the great ones you have to pull off the field. And I really believe he can be a great one because he has that demeanor. Like if he’s hurt, he’s never going to tell you. If he’s tired, he’s never going to tell you. That. I literally can not say enough good things about him.”
Nunnelly has the same demeanor in the classroom. Last spring, he pulled off a 4.0 GPA in mechanical engineering.
Said Nunnelly:”Like you said, I really didn’t watch TV. I just studied basically every night. This semester I’m in calculus 2, vector statistics, linear algebra, and engineering design.”
